Added a banked reset to 500k users of ChatGPT Work and Codex. What’s been happening: - Just released the ability to use a banked reset from web and mobile. Before today you could only do it in the desktop app - Had an issue where less than 10% of users who used a banked reset and it didn’t actually reset. This was during a 2 hour window. - It was hard to find all the exact users where it didn’t apply, so instead granted a banked reset to everyone who pressed the reset button in that 2 hour window. This also gives us the opportunity to validate the new infra ahead of tomorrow Tomorrow we will celebrate our 7M active users milestone and grant the first banked reset across all of our ChatGPT Work and Codex users. We will also release a bunch of updates to the desktop app, addressing a ton of your feedback. Talk soon

Hello beautiful people! We have reset usage limits across Codex and ChatGPT Work. And another one will come later in the day. Rejoice. Now that I have your attention, a quick update on ChatGPT Work, Codex and all the updates we shared yesterday. We’ve spent the last 24 hours reading feedback, looking at usage patterns, and talking with many of you. The short version is that there is a *lot* of excitement for GPT 5.6 Sol, ChatGPT Work on mobile & web, but also that we didn't get everything quite right. - We made it too easy to use the highest-compute settings without making the impact on usage limits sufficiently clear. - We reorganized the desktop app in one bold move, making familiar things like chats and projects harder to find. - Our launch framing was focused on ChatGPT Work and to some of our Codex fans it made it feel like Codex was going away over time. Absolutely not our intention, we love Codex and it is here to stay. - And we introduced regressions for some existing multi-agent workflows, alongside a collection of rough edges in plugins and other parts of the experience. We’re landing a first set of improvements today. We’re resetting usage twice so people can keep experimenting, changing defaults and the model picker so they don’t push people toward unnecessarily expensive settings, fixing several plugin submission issues, improving how we represent Codex in the product, and cleaning up some of the most immediate desktop problems. A larger set of improvements will land next week. We’re bringing chats and projects back into the sidebar in a more familiar and customizable way, making usage and reset timing much more visible, clarifying when to use ChatGPT Work and when to use Codex, and addressing the many other smaller pieces of great feedback we've had. The ambition behind this launch hasn’t changed. We think bringing ChatGPT and Codex together into a workspace where people and agents can collaborate is a very important step forward. But an ambitious direction doesn’t excuse avoidable confusion or regressions in the first version. Please keep the feedback coming. We’re moving quickly, and you should see the experience already get better with a few updates today; and substantially better again next week.

Codex usage limits will be fully reset again in the next hour and we will credit one additional reset into your bank for your own usage over the next 24 hours. We investigated reports that Codex usage was being consumed faster than expected. There wasn't one central issue, but a few smaller problems compounded for some users. Here's what we found and changed: - Actual usage: Auto-review had become more proactive, another change was triggering more subagent work, and background suggestions could run twice or retry too frequently after failures. We reverted the changes and fixed suggestion scheduling, duplicate generation, and retry behavior. This should reduce unnecessary background token consumption while preserving the work users explicitly request. - Usage reporting: Auto-review was incorrectly appearing as GPT‑5.4 usage, and failed or rate-limited requests were still shown as turns. Auto-review now appears as its own category, and only successful requests count toward the turn graphs. Rate-limited requests were never charged, but they were being displayed incorrectly. - Immediate relief: We reset usage limits while rolling out the fixes, then shipped hotfixes across the CLI, desktop app, and usage backend. - What to expect: New usage data should be clearer and actual consumption should be lower. Historical charts may still show auto-review under GPT‑5.4 because older turn data was not relabeled. Features that intentionally perform more work; such as /goal, subagents, and higher reasoning levels will still naturally use more capacity. All fixes are now deployed, and we've added more detailed monitoring so we can detect background-usage regressions sooner. We'll continue watching the results closely. As we are still investigating, I have reset everyone's Codex usage limits. This is a hard reset given some users had stacked up to three banked resets already that they can apply on their own schedule. Funnily enough, this week at OpenAI is called the RESET week, which is meant for folks to relax a bit. However it will be a different kind of RESET week. Enjoy.

Earlier today, ~3% of Claude Code Max and Pro users hit a bug that showed an incorrect weekly usage limit, and in some cases blocked them from sending messages. This is fixed, and we're resetting 5-hour and weekly limits for everyone affected. Apologies for the disruption.

Hi. Over the last 24 hours we had three separate small incidents that affected Codex reliability. Those are three too many and we are taking active steps for them to not reproduce. I have reset usage limits for Codex across all paid plans. May the tokens flow again.

Some of you noticed limits drained faster in Codex, we root caused it to an optimization that we rolled back that had an impact on cache hit rates when compacting across long running sessions. We fixed this and have now reset usage limits for all accounts. Enjoy the weekend.

Our Codex dashboards are showing increased rate of users hitting rate limits and since we don't fully understand why I have made the cautious decision of resetting the usage limits for all plans. Enjoy. I also wanted to celebrate us finding a pocket of fraudulent accounts that we banned and have helped us regain some compute. The fight against abuse never stops, but it's important to mark the moment and make it a little shared victory.

We caught an issue that was causing the 2X promotional increase in limits to not be applied to an estimated 9% of plus and pro users for Codex. We have now fixed this issue and are reseting the rate limit for all plus and pro users to compensate. Apologies and thank you for the bug reports over the last couple of days.

Codex is back up. We introduced an issue that caused requests to be blocked and rejected as high cyber risk. This was fixed in ~8 mins and we are now back online and fully operational. Team will reset rate limits, that’s been a while. Enjoy one on us.

We gave gpt-5-codex a small sibling, you can now try gpt-5-codex-mini in Codex. Smaller, so up to 4X more usage included. $ codex -m gpt-5-codex-mini Also increased usage limits by 50% for Plus, Edu and Team plans and gave Pro priority processing for a faster experience.
